Archiepiscopal Archive and Diocesan Library

Ravenna, Italy 2019

The Archiepiscopal Archive of Ravenna is an extraordinary heritage of the city, as it contains very ancient documents, continuously from the III century onwards. For this unicum in the Catholic Church history has been recovered a cinema built towards the end of the 1960s, building a new container specially designed to enhance its contents.

The result is an evocative, extremely rarefied space, which enjoys the zenithal light of the large central skylight. The facades have preserved the existing layout, but the surfaces have been treated in an antique way, with the result of giving the building a diachronic aspect, in chromatic and morphological harmony with the surrounding historical fabric.
